Man in Machine Rescue

Hey brothers,

I work full time in an Industrial Fire Department at a large steel making facility, in South Eastern PA. We have a heavy rescue truck, that mainly is equipped to handle rope and confined space jobs and Haz Mat Incidents. I am working on creating Standard Operating Guidelines for our Rescue Company Operations and also working on creating a Man in Machine Kit.

Our rescue is equipped with Rabbit Tools, Grip Hoists, Chain Come A Longs, Battery Operated Sawzalls, Metric and Standard Hand Tools, etc. We are not equipped with any type of air bags, hydraulic rescue tools, etc.

I am looking for some help and hoping that some of the brothers here will be able to provide that.

BC Raymond Downey (5555, 11 SEP 2001) book, The Rescue Company would be one of my first sources of information. The book can be purchased from the Fire Engineering website. He writes about some of the incidents that the FDNY Rescue companies had but includes what and who he chose to put on those trucks and why. Excellent book and never seems out of date.

"The Rescue Company" is a great book.

Chief Norman has a book coming out soon called "Fire Department Special Operations" and in the contents it includes "man-in-maching" incidents. If it's anything like "Fire Officer's Handbook of Tactics" it should be a helluva good book and easy to understand (which I need).
