Fire Engineering Training Community

Where firefighters come to talk training

I am sure that you all are already doing this but a common drill conducted by our guys is the "What's in Here Drill". The officer gathers everyone on the floor, picks one guy and one cabinet on any piece of apparatus and the chosen one has to turn his back to the cabinet and describe what all is in that cabinet to everyone else who is looking into the cabinet.
A variation on this one is the fetch drill where you have someone go get a particular piece of equipment, bring to a designated spot, and place it into operation (start the saw, fan, rescue tool, air bags, etc). With varying levels of competitiveness this can also be a fun drill that helps everyone (officer included) in keeping track of where things are located on our apparatus that they may not check daily.
