Where firefighters come to talk training

Training and job placement.

I am interested in firefighting and search and rescue, I know very little about the field and would like more information on training, what it costs and where to get the best training possible, if free training is available i would appreciate being pointed in the right direction, I want to help people and make a difference in people's lives. Any information provided will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There are a couple of threads that ask that question and have several routes to go. Check with your local fire service. Look for a volunteer department that serves your area or is near by. If you are outside the response area of a volunteer district, see if they have sleeper programs after you are well into your training/certification process. Look for Fire Training Schools and check the training program, see if it's something that you can get grants for. Most departments require at least EMT-Basic from Nat'l Registry of EMTs. Check if yours does. It's an extra 200 some hours of class and hands on.
