Where firefighters come to talk training

Fireground Discipline

How do you keep your fireground disciplined? Is freelancing a problem at every fire? What steps have you or your department taken to address this? Has it worked?

Our in-town jobs where it is more than a quick knock with the first line are few and faar between. Freelancing is not a big problem but accountability is. Thng that we have tried with some sucess include:
Chiefs as division leaders. Seems like one company officer resists another and everyone wants to talk to the IC. Having a chief in each work area seems to improve communication and accountability.
Not spliting the company. Whether it is a 3 or 4 member company, they stay together. If we had a bonafide rescue we would have no problem spliting the crew but we resist sending one half interior and the other half exterior, or to diferent floors, etc.
Making sure we have plenty of help. Our first alarm has only 14-16 members but upon confimation of a working fire we get another 12-16. A second alarm request will bring another 24 members. You can always send them home.
