Where firefighters come to talk training

Hello everyone, I wanted some Advice, right now im in college going to school for get an AS in fire Science, im an ex Marine and i have 2 tattoos, one on each forearm, nothing offensive. Just a cross and my name. I am willing to wear long sleeves at work. but do you think ill get turned down a job just becuase of my tattoos?

It depends on the policies of the department you select. There is a lot of controversy over tattoos and firefighters. In general it becomes a 1st Amendment issue of the right of free speech and freedom of expression and the law is undecided at this time. Many organizations will craft their policies to require the firefighters to be able to cover the tattoos and if unable to cover, that the tattoos are not racist, controversial (whatever that means) and tasteful (whatever that means). Most of that subjective judgment is in the eye of the beholder and many times that person is the fire chief.

Are you an "X" Marine or a former marine...there is a difference...haha. As far as tats go, it is up to that departments policy on tattoos. Generally speaking, as long as your tats are not offensive you should be good to go.
