what kind of smoke detectors?

Hi


optical smoke detector.

Please be infomed that our case is provision of optical smoke detectors above the hydrulic oil skid and generator bearings in a gas turbine power plant by a designer.the height of ceiling of turbine hall building is 21m and we have forced ventilation.According to my experience in design review of famous suppliers like siemens ,heat detector is more suitable than smoke detector.but new supplier claims that smoke detector with a collector installed above the skid is more suitable.(?)It may be noted that detectors are VDS approved.
what is your judgement about it?Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Have you looked into Beam Smokes? Maybe this is what you meant by "optical". A number of our larger facilities use these units. Basically there are two pieces, one sends an infrared beam and the other across the area receives it, when smoke (and at times dust) passes through the beam, the detector arms. We've found they work pretty well when maintained (cleaned) but they must be mounted to truly immobile structural elements. In one building when we have high winds the walls move enough to cause the beams to misalign and arm the detectors.
