Paul J. Conway is a Battalion Chief and 24 year veteran of the Milwaukee Fire Department currently assigned the First Battalion. He was an Assistant Director of the HURT Team and has developed numerous operations manuals and standard operating procedures; and has responsibility for continual training of the 90 member HURT Team. Following the events of September 11, 2001, Paul worked for the New York City Office of Emergency Management, Mayor’s Office, as a Logistics Operations Manager at the World Trade Center site.
Paul is also the owner of Paul Conway Shields, a fire equipment manufacturing company employing 35 people with sales of several million dollars. He has extensive experience with national and international fire departments’ and distributors’ needs regarding purchasing, bid processes, and safety and municipal requirements. Paul assisted in the development of leather and composite helmets for the fire service to meet NFPA requirements and was owner of Paul Conway Helmets; prior to its sale to Lion Apparel in June 2000.
Paul also has extensive volunteer fire department experience serving 17 years with the New Berlin (WI) Volunteer Fire Department; advancing to the Rank of Assistant Chief of Operations.
