Eric Myers replied to Ricky Connor's discussion Looking for Opinions - Rubbish Hooks in the group Truck Company Operations
"We outfit all of our trucks and engines with 6' rubbish hooks. They are a great and very versatile tool. They pull ceiling like nothing else. Unless its lath and plaster. Chain saws work awesome to defeat that problem. Fiberglass is good. Like…"

Eric Myers replied to Paul Shapiro's discussion SMOOTH BORE VS AUTOMATIC ,THINK ABOUT WHATS REAL in the group Start Water
"I agree. This has been beaten to death. But, I must tell you that in Salt Lake City a majority of our Engines have one 200' preconnect with a smooth bore and one with an adjustable flow nozzle. It is the Officer's decision on which one is…"

Randolph Firefighter CLOSE CALL caught on the Fire Helmet Camera

"I am glad this is a close call and not a LODD. Table top critique is appropriate. Not on the open forum. The disorientation sequence could probably answer a lot of questions you guys are asking as to why he was alone. I wasn't there so I…"

Eric Myers replied to Ray McCormack's discussion Opening the Nozzle in Smoke in the group Start Water
"It sounds like there are a lot of great ideas and feedback. However, Ray's statement and question is to vague to comment on completely. I would love to narrow the focus to single family dwelling, 1 or 2 stories. Than discuss fires in large…"

Larry Lasich replied to Eric Myers's discussion Fire apprentices. When is enough, enough?
"Eric, If you could define your terms for us? Is JATC a training position? When you say Platoon, are you referring to a Fire Company? Other that, the process for dealing with a training problem is the same everywhere. Develop a standard. Train to…"

Fire apprentices. When is enough, enough?

I have recently become the JATC Captain for my platoon and am trying to do the right thing to ensure the success of the apprentices.  We have a new set of policies in place and I am attempting to get caught up on all the newbies situations.  As usual there is one particular bad apple that doesn't seem to get it.  No matter what.  With multiple test failures and such.  What is the appropriate course of action I should take?  Please, any and all suggestions will be greatly valued.See More

Eric Myers replied to Michael Dombroski's discussion Incident sectorisation in the group Fireground Strategies
"Not necessarily. Divisions and Groups are individual of themselves. They would or could work independently of each other under the I/C. This model works until the span of control starts to get out of hand. For instance in a high rise or multi story…"
