Profile Information

Lives in:
Peachtree City
Department:
DeKalb County Fire Dept.
Title/rank:
Driver Engineer (AKA: Sergeant) Acting Lt.
Years of public service:
10
Agency structure:
Paid fire department
Top issues in your department:
Politics trumping Professionalism.
Bad Chiefs endangering underlings at emergency
scenes---AND NOT BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE!
Professional Qualifications:
We call 'Professional Qualifications': 'Lie Lists'
On paper many of our worst officers take all sorts of
career advancing courses and load up with stuff that
impresses politicians; but, grunt officer and firefighters
have no input to rate officers for emergency scene
behavior.
Topics you provide training for:
Extrication, Skyscraper Fires and Other High Rise
Emergencies, etc...but, this is all for naught if the
lead emergency officer loses it a fire scenes, is
not flexible, etc...
Areas of expertise:
You name it; but, again, everything goes into the
s****** if the lead scene officer knows more politics.
As one of our few really good chiefs said: 'While
knowing everything (fire related) is good, knowing
(the right) people is more important.
Bio:
Just your frustrated average firefighter grunt who takes
]his desire to do good more than butt kissing and who
has to watch out at emergency scenes that our officers
aren't doing something that will kill me or my fellow
grunts.
