Dan Shaw is a Battalion Chief with the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department assigned to Battalion 04. Dan has been in the fire service since 1992 serving in various ranks. Dan started his Fire Service career as a volunteer in Howard County, MD before being hired by the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department in 1995. During his tenure in Fairfax he has been the Apparatus Technician of the busiest Engine in Fairfax, a Lieutenant assigned to a Tower Ladder, the Command Aide to the Deputy Fire Chief of Operations, and as an Captain assigned to an Engine Company.
Dan has an Associates Degree in Fire Service Supervision, a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, and is a graduate of the West Point Leadership Program. He has been regular contributor to Fire Engineering on various subjects along with teaching at FDIC Indy and FDIC East.Dan is a principal member of NFPA 1400, Committee on Fire Service Training. He is the co-author of the best-selling book 25 to Survive: Reducing Residential Injury and LODD from PennWell Publishing.
