Bio:
I've been in the fire service 13 years and everyday I learn something new. I guess the first time I can remember being drawn to this wonderful profession is when I was probably 2 years old and a two-story house across the street from where I lived caught fire and I remember watching the flames and the firefighters work. That image was forever burned in my brain. I was formerly on a fire department in a neighboring county where I served as a lieutenant for 2 years until I met my husband and moved to where I am now. He, too, is a firefighter with the City of Hickory, NC. Together, we run calls and serve our community, and we instruct other firefighters to become the best they can be while keeping each other safe. We value the heritage and tradition of the fire service and the brotherhood that is found nowhere else but here!! My full time job is as a registered nurse in our local emergency room. But my heart will always be in the fire service. We are member s of Tablerock FOOLS! FTM-PTB. My husband is very supportive of what I do and is the best thing that has ever happened to me! As you know, this career is tough on relationships!
To reply to your question of Why I do what I do? It is simple it is a way of life, I grew up around the fire service my Dad, Uncles and Neighbors all were firefighters. I love it when I see the look on a new firefighter's face when they realize that all the blood and sweat that went into the long training hours all comes together on an emergency run and everyone clicks working as a team. It is neat to see the future firefighters moving forward and making a difference and learning from us the true meaning of Pride and Ownership in this GREAT Profession!!
As for the teaching thing, I was the same way. I think everyone is at first. It took me a while but each and every time I did it I got better. I think a lot of it has to do with what you're speaking on. I think the more into it, the more passionate you are about the subject, the better it comes off and the better you do. And then there are those days when it just doesn't go well and you have to say oh, well.
Give it time buddy! Hey John and I are in Fripp Island SC this coming weekend teaching. I'll be thinking of ya!
Welcome to the world's greatest training site. This is where the serious trainers come to train & learn from each other. Please allow me to invite you to the group called "HAZMAT PLACARDS TO SUCCESS". This group is for the firefighter, the EMA officer, and the HazMat Technician. I would love to hear what you have to say. This is a great time to join the group as our main focus is currently the first stages of the HazMat Incident.
