Topics you provide training for:
Motivation in Training
I am starting my 11th year in the fire service and 6th year as an EMT. I got my start as a volunteer with the Montgomery Fire Protection District, and currently their Training Officer. I am now a career Firefighter Engineer with the City of Fulton Fire Department. I have been an Instructor for 7 years and assist with certifications for our Firefighters to obtain their Hazmat Awareness, Operations, and Fire 1 & 2. I also assist with the Montgomery County Fire Alliance training as well as give a class I designed titled “Motivation in Training, Getting it Back to our Department”. I like to be involved in our community and several fundraising campaigns through our IAFF Local 2945, and currently the Secretary / Treasurer of that local. I instruct an impact class at one of the State of Missouri’s Prison treatment facilities as a community partner. I am the Vice President of the Lake Area FOOLS chapter and enjoy doing a lot of outside training. I have received the honor of being named Firefighter of the Year in 2016 by our Local 2945, Fulton Professional Firefighters. I also received a service award from Montgomery Fire Protection District for serving them as Firefighter, Chief Engineer, and finally as Assistant Chief. I have presented my class across the state of Missouri and Illinois to numerous Departments both career and volunteer. I have also presented it at Missouri Winter Fire School, Iowa State Fire School, Iowa Fire Chiefs conference, and Wichita H.O.T. My goal is to keep on learning every day and be a student of the trade, every day is a day to become better. Through my teaching and continued education, I hope to help change the way we look at training and how to become more motivated to be there and train.

Has it been lost in the transition, or over time as we grow in our departments?  First, we need to…
