Lives in:
Florence, Oregon
Department:
Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue
Title/rank:
Firefighter 1/Engineer
Years of public service:
1
Agency structure:
Combination fire department
Top issues in your department:
Because we are situated near many lakes, a river and the ocean, as well as the largest stretch of dunes on the west coast, we are very diverse in what we do in terms of fire and rescue situations. Our biggest challenge is getting the training time we need to cover such a wide spectrum of response calls.
Professional Qualifications:
I am just one year out of the academy in the volunteer division of our department. I recently became Engineer qualified and completed my FF1 class. I was also Recruit of the Year for 2010.

What to do, what to do...

Yesterday was the first 24-hour period in two weeks that we didn't have a call. I'm not sure what to do with the "free time." Last week, with the flooding and storm, we had 12 calls in 36 hours. Maybe I could take up knitting. With fire-retardant yarn, of course.
