Join Capt. Mike Dugan (FDNY) and Capt. Mike Gagliano (Seattle Fire) on Wednesday October 5th, at 4:30 PM (Pacific) as they discuss “Leading with Attitude” with Division Chief Eddie Buchanan (Hanover (VA) Fire & EMS).

Chief Buchanan brings his 24+ years of experience to airwaves and will share experiences and insights from his nationally recognized program: “Leading with Attitude”. Enthusiasm and Passion are an essential part of leadership. This program will look at how to make the right kind of attitude contagious and sustainable in your firehouse and fire department.

Among the things we’ll try to tackle, along with your thoughts and questions are:
Why is attitude important? What difference does it make?

What are the keys to maintaining a good attitude?

Describe personal leadership.

What does it mean to be a good follower and why is that critical to success?

What is informal leadership and how does it help or harm you efforts to lead?

How does loyalty and trust impact both our attitude and ability to lead?

Can we adapt Command Decision Making Skills into our everyday life?

What do you use to help keep your priorities in focus?

What impact do things our values have on actual behavior?

As a nationally recognized authority on leadership and president of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors, Chief Buchanan will stretch your knowledge base and fire you up.

Join Capt. Mike Dugan (FDNY) and Capt. Mike Gagliano (Seattle Fire) on Wednesday September 21st, at 4:30 PM (Pacific) as they discuss leadership and effective boss behaviors with America’s Fire Chief, Alan Brunacini (Phoenix Fire Dept. (Ret.)).

This will be a no holds barred look at how you can improve your ability to serve and lead as an effective boss in today’s fire service. Chief Brunacini is a master communicator and brilliant teacher. His insights are sought by departments all over the world and he’ll be answering your questions as well as sharing advice from his long career.

Among the topics we’ll be discussing are:

What are a few things that typically undermine someone’s ability to effectively leader firefighters?

What advice do you have for firefighters who are struggling with controlling/micro-management type bosses?

What advice do you have for firefighters who are witnessing the increasing trend of promoted bosses who are clearly not ready for the job?

What do you mean by “Sweating the Big Stuff”?

What is “Loyal Disobedience/Insubordination”?

How do you establish trust and keep it?

Why are so many organizations “tone deaf” to what is truly happening on the streets?

How can we truly make customer service and member support the core of what we do?

This a simply scratching the service of areas we hope to cover and would love to hear your questions for Bruno. Chat with you there.

Join Capt. Mike Dugan (FDNY) and Capt. Mike Gagliano (Seattle Fire) on Wednesday August 24th, at 4:30 PM (Pacific) as they discuss their newest project: This House Rocks!

There is nothing quite like a firehouse. It can be the most incredible experience of your life or a miserable exile to purgatory. It can be place of learning where skills are honed and techniques refined or a stagnant cesspool where competence erodes into ineffective complacency.

What is it that causes one place to be cohesive and brimming with camaraderie while just down the road there is dissension and drudgery? The authors believe there are five key areas that can turn any firehouse into the type of place that enables firefighters to thrive and fulfill their calling.
