Im wondering who has a Emergency Power Unit for their Aerial Device and if they train members to use it? Im more of an Engine guy however being a small combination department I need to know as much as possible.

Our department has a 75 Pierce Heavy Duty Ladder. This truck came with a EPU switch to be used for the outriggers as well as the Aerial device. So some of the questions I have.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction of the best Tower Ladder Resources (ie Baker Aerialscope) in regard to the specification, purchase, training, operation, and strategies of using such apparatus?

This group has a hit a milestone with now "72" members! 72 is a number unlike any other. It's the only one that comes after seventy one and squeezed in right before seventy three.

Maybe we should close membership to this group so we can keep it at a solid "72"? Well it's worth entertaining.
So I might be a little partial to this specific numerical gem, but hey, it is what it is........A damn good Ladder…

Just one question, Why does so many departments order their aerials with so much crab at the tip of the ladder. ( i.e. quartz lights, eletrical boxes, and so on)
They just interfere with members operations. Just a personal thought.

Hi All...

My Dept is re-working all of our SOG's. I have been assigned Truck op's and High Rise. I was looking for other Dept's SOG's to compair and to be honest pick from the bast and use those in our Dept to improve the way or should I say the lack of a way we use our three trucks and manpaower. I do not want to steal them but give credit where credit is due. I believe truck work is very important and want to improve the way we do things here.

Outriggers on snow & icetag:community.fireengineering.com,2008-12-27:1219672:Topic:1083922008-12-27T22:57:15.663ZDavid Klotzhttps://community.fireengineering.com/profile/DavidKlotz
I would like to ask you what you do for outrigger placement in terms of traction during times of snow & ice conditions on the ground in terms of outrigger foot traction.
We use to carry a bag of sand to spread around and now we carry a bag of de-icer crystals. What do you use/do, and furthermore, does your department have anything written in SOP's/SOG's/Policies concerning these operations.
What do you use for fall safety in the bucket? We use simple belts, which don’t work on a couple of levels. First, as a safety professional, so I know that they are more likely to break a brother’s back than to save his life in a fall. Second, they are a huge pain to put on with an SCBA, so nobody uses them anyway, unless the officer insists. I’d like to know what other truckies are using that can be put on quickly and will protect the brothers in the bucket.

Aerial Operations in Rural Areastag:community.fireengineering.com,2008-08-27:1219672:Topic:765602008-08-27T17:30:45.980ZDavid Klotzhttps://community.fireengineering.com/profile/DavidKlotz
Does anyone here have experience utilizing aerial apparatus in the Rural Setting? From what we have been taught, our use of an aerial would be limited due to a lack of paved roads/driveways, soft soil (outside the limitations of outriggers), etc. We have multiple developments in our district with large "McMansions" that have roofs beyond the reach of ground ladders.

Equation to figure out how many feet per floor to raise 100 ft aerial,if aerial spotted at 26 ft from building?tag:community.fireengineering.com,2008-08-26:1219672:Topic:763132008-08-26T14:48:29.226ZDavid Klotzhttps://community.fireengineering.com/profile/DavidKlotz
Trying to see if any of you happen to have a basic equation you use to figure out how many ft to run ladder out per floor if spotted 25-26ft from fire building? My department uses EONE 100ft arials.
