The United States Fire Administration (USFA) has received notice of the following firefighter fatality in NY.

It is with deep regret that I post the following USFA official line of duty death announcement of fellow brother Asst. Chief Garrett Loomis. Our sincerest condolences go out to the family and the members of the Sackets Harbor FD also to the Fort Drum F.&E.S. where Garrett was employed.

Incident Description: Assistant Fire Chief Loomis was among members of his fire department that had arrived on-scene of a reported silo fire. Loomis had climbed the silo to investigate the situation and was returning back down the ladder when the silo exploded. Assistant Fire Chief Loomis died from injuries sustained in the explosion. The incident remains under investigation.
