Bio:
Billy Schmidt is a 24-year member of Palm Beach County (FL) Fire Rescue. He has held the positions of firefighter, driver-operator, paramedic, rescue lieutenant, fire lieutenant, and currently holds the position of district chief. As a lead instructor for the Department's Recruit Academy and Training Division, he developed and delivered several training programs including Moving Hose Lines and Company Resource Management. He has assisted with the development and delivery of numerous department-wide training programs including Initial Company Operations, Strategy and Tactics for Company Officers, Situational Awareness, Firefighter Assist Support Team (FAST), and Saving Our Own. He is a member of the Department's Pre-Fire Planning Committee where he participated in the research, development, and delivery of a new pre-fire planning program. He has assisted with the development and review of several Department Standard Operating Guidelines. He served in the Planning Section on the Department's Command Team during Hurricanes Frances, Jean, and Wilma. He has instructed classes at the local community college in both fire and EMS. He has published articles for FireRescue Magazine and FireRescue1.com and delivered a strategy and tactics session at the FireRescue Conference & Expo held in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2006 and 2007. He is a Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector and a paramedic. He was awarded two Department Unit Commendations and the Florida Distinguished Service Award.
