James K. Crawford serves as Assistant Fire Chief for the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire. He is a Fire Suppression Instructor for the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy and a retired Deputy Fire Chief of Operations for the 171st Air Refueling Wing Fire Department, Pennsylvania Air National Guard after 23 years of military service. He is a graduate of the Air Force Fire Academy spending four years on active duty as a firefighter. Jim is also the Deputy Chief of Training for the PA USAR Strike team 1 where he also served as a Rescue Manager. He is a life member and past Chief of the Ben Avon Volunteer Fire Company, PA. and has over 32 years experience in the career and volunteer fire service. Jim was the ISFSI fire instructor of the year recipient in 2002 for his aggressive national efforts in firefighter rescue training. Chief Crawford lectures nationally on the subject of Rapid Intervention Teams and is the President of Rapid Intervention Training Associates and founder of www.rapidintervention.com.
