Billy,
My name is Troy Todak, I am looking for some info and I was hoping you could help me. I work for Seminole County Fire Rescue out side of Olando Fl. My department started some time ago to realy work on updateing their sop's on RIT Teams and Operations. They sent me to Fire house expo in 05 for Calling the Mayday and in 07 they sent me to Illinois for train the trainer RIT, I came back and began to teach Mayday, to date I have tought over 400 firefighters also we built a RIT class and tought that to. My department then begain to dispatch a RIT engine on all confermed structure fires. We have changed our Mayday sop's to out line the Mayday class and we changed our county wide IMS. Here is my push this year. I am going to push for a change in dispatch to get the county to put a RIT engine on all Smoke odor calls, all smoke visable, all flames and smoke showing , all working 1 and 2 alarm fires . I am trying to get them to be proactive instead of REACTIVE. Here's how you can help me. Do you have any info on any incidents that have had Rit teams activated and how many rescuers it took to make the saves, also any info on how many may have not mad the saves, any info on how long it may have taken to make the rescues. I am trying to show them why we need to have more then 2 out.Iv'e got some articles but anything else will help. You can send it to tt58260@aol.com or please fill free to contact me at 321-231-1954, Please anything you can provide me with will may be just what I need to help save a brother or sister firefighter. I won't rest till I get them to understand the need for a well Trained RIT Team. and the need to upgrade the size of the RIT Team as the incident escalates. Thank You for anything you can do.

Chief, I read your email about the NFFF I got from TSL. I'm sorry you were unable to attend but I was able to be there for you as well as many others in our Brotherhood. Since this was actually my first time in attending the memorial weekend, I am ashamed that since I grew up in PA only a few miles from the NFA that I wish I had made every attempt to make it there in previous years. I was a little skeptical at first on how the mood would be and while it was very moving and somber I discovered it to be more of a celebration than a mourning. I felt alive and refreshed as never before. I got to see old friends and make new ones and even though I hardly knew anyone there or those being honored for their sacrifice, I felt at home and at peace among my family celebrating the lives of our fallen family members in the past years. Those who gave their all doing what they loved one last time for those they swore to protect and serve. It is very tragic to have this happen and to know that we could and often do get hurt or die in the line of duty. Thanks to the efforts of our fire service leaders and the NFFF who are making every effort possible to eliminate LODD's it is up to the rest of us to practice and succeed at their goals.

Thanks very much for TSL and yours and others in their continued works of making the fire service understand that this needs to stop, stop dying and start living and making sure Everyone goes Home!

Chief, thanks for the words in TSL about the NFFF Memorial weekend. I was very fortunate to be able to attend the Memorial for the very first time and feel ashamed that since I grew up right in the back yard of the NFA in PA that I had not attended previous years and had to travel from Alaska to see my family in Pa and plan my trip around the NFFF event. I was skeptical at first on how the mood would be when I arrived. It was very refreshing to see that what I thought would be very catatonic was more somber and refreshing as it felt to me like it was a celebration and indeed it was for me. I saw old friends and made new ones and it was an energy jolt once again in my life for our job that no one could have gotten except by attending an event like this. We all know it is a tragedy having our Brothers and Sister have to give their all one last time and no one wants that to happen.

I am truly glad that people like you and Chiefs Sarniki, Halton and many others are leading the way in preventing this from happening again and again year after year as we all should be striving to eliminate.

Thanks and I would like to add the "Let us not become a name on the Walk of Honor but to Learn and Live to Walk in their Honor" be sure to visit my http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=641823508&ref=profile and see my posted pictures from Sunday on there.
