- Paul is currently in his Thirty Third year as a Fire Apparatus Operator / Paramedic for the City of Hastings Fire Department. He currently is also the Fire Training Officer responsible for all-departmental Fire Rescue and Compliance Training, and serves as Technical Rescue Coordinator for the department.
He began his career in the fire service at the age of eighteen in which he became the first eighteen-year-old to become a member of the Hastings Fire Department.
Throughout his career he has served in many capacities from front-line firefighter to Assistant Chief / Safety Officer of a large oil refining complex.
He also has served as the Fire / EMS training coordinator for the Dakota County Technical College, and has been teaching in the Minnesota State College and University system for twenty-eight years.
He currently serves as the EMS Coordinator and has served as former Training Coordinator for the Dakota County Special Operations Team.
He also serves as a member of DCSOT and MN-TF1 (Minnesota Task force One)
He is qualified as a technician in rope rescue, confined space rescue, hazardous materials, structural collapse, tactical paramedic, weapons of mass destruction and is certified as a company officer.
He has been published nationally as an expert writer for NHTSA DOT paramedic curriculum.
Also in his spare time Paul has served as an adjunct instructor at the annual Industrial Fire School at Texas A and M University which is one of the largest international fire training events in the world.
Paul also has served as the Vice-Chairman and currently serves as a board member for the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board; he is also member of the Fire Instructors Association of Minnesota and also has served on the ASTM F-32 subcommittee Training and Education Standards for Rope Rescue.
Paul is also the CEO of his own company called PJS and Associates, Incorporated which specializes in compliance training / education and consulting.
