I absolutely love teaching the "probies" whether it's on the front lawn doing size-up, or after the fire is knocked down taking the junior firefighters into a structure and showing them around and explaining what happened and why.

I've had 2 articles published in Fire Engineering and I have 8 more articles that are awaiting publishing dates.

In addition I am the creator and host of "The 'Average Joe' Firefighter Podcast" on FireEngineering.com.
Areas of expertise:
I am not an "expert" at anything. I am better at some things than others.
Bio:
I am a Police Officer/Aircraft Rescue Firefighter with the Port Authority of NY & NJ Police Department at John F. Kennedy International Airport in NYC. I am also a certified EMT-Critical Care and Clinical Lab Instructor at the Nassau County (NY) EMS Academy. I was previously a Police Officer with the NYC Police Department and a Supervising Fire Alarm Dispatcher with the FDNY.

I've been a Volunteer Firefighter since 1990 and reached the rank of Captain and served as a Training Officer.

Hello to all the members of the Fire Engineering Community. My name is Barry Daskal and I am a police officer/aircraft rescue firefighter in a large public safety department in New York as well as a volunteer firefighter in my hometown.

I’ve started a new podcast debuting on the Fire Engineering Website titled, The ‘Average Joe’ Firefighter.

These are going to be interactive podcasts with guests who I have known over the course of my fire service career. This…

Thanks. Had a Ron White moment when I started to reply. Didn't realise the guy was a District Chief. Guess that's a Batt Chief around here. Oh well, it's just my opinion.

Sounds like a very interesting topic of discussion and pretty much sums up the American Fire Service.

Good luck and I look forward to hearing them!

nice to meet you also...your job-past jobs are very interesting sounding...I understand that PAPD is a great job...certified in both states-correct? How was that gig as a Supervising Dispatcher for FDNY? sounds cool--did you ever try to get on FDNY as a ff?

we are on the same page...i was kinda sarcastically replying to the article that you re-printed lauding police officers...vs. the guy who wrote in above us about having cops arrested. I know all too well about the pd/fd relationship and the some times well intentioned ''interference'' that pd's do on scene which ends up making the fd's job harder. I've been a vol. ff for almost 25 years,Chief for 4 years and work pd as my full time occupation.
