- John Shafer started his fire service career at Cloverdale Twp. Volunteer Fire Department (Putnam Co. Indiana) in 1994. John remained a volunteer firefighter at CTVFD intill 2000. In 1999 John Shafer was hired as a career firefighter at Honey Creek Fire Department (Vigo Co.). In 2000 John was hired as a career firefighter for Greencastle Fire Department (Putnam Co.) John is presently employed as the Lt/Training Officer Greencastle Fire Department. John is also the District 7 Fire Training Coordinator.
John Shafer is a 14- year student and is currently certified as Firefighter I/II, Fire Officer I/II Hazardous Materials Technician, Instructor II/III, Inspector I/II, Strategy & Tactics, EMT, Safety Officer, numerous fire service, and WMD courses.
Some of the accomplishments in John Shafer’s 14 years in the fire service are:
• Rookie of the Year 1994 Cloverdale Twp. Vol. Fire Department
• Firefighter of the Year Cloverdale Twp. Vol. Fire Department
• Reserve of the Year 2000 Greencastle Fire Department
• Firefighter of the Year 2003 Greencastle Fire Department
Firefighter of the Year 2006 Greencastle Fire Department
• Information Officer Task Force 7 WMD Team
• District 7 Fire Training Steering Committee Chairman
• Information Officer Indiana Fire Instructors Association
• District 7 Fire Training Coordinator
2007 First ever Indiana Department of Homeland Security Training Leadership Award
John Shafer has been privileged to be one of the five founding members of the Region 7 WMD Task Force which is one the state’s first multi-discipline WMD Planning Council. John has recently had the privilege to organize and help develop the state’s first Fire Training Council.
