Profile Information

Residence.
North Pole, Alaska
Department:
University Fire Department
Title/rank:
Captain
Years of public service:
16
Agency structure:
Paid fire department
Top issues in your department:
Training, manpower.
Professional Qualifications:
State of Alaska IFSAC FFI & FFII, Instructor I.
State of Alaska EMT III
State of Alaska RIT Instructor
Topics you provide training for:
Fire and rescue, EMS as scheduled.
Areas of expertise:
I hate the expertise label, I am far from an expert at any of it. In fact as I get more experience I'm finding myself in need of more learning. I teach a whole lot of RIT though, helped develop the state curriculum with some very gifted people. I assist in teaching Rescue Practices for UAF/TVC, and help out pretty much anyone who asks, provided it doesn't interfere with family obligations - yeah, my wife pretty much owns me.
Bio:
I got into the fire service kind of late, started volunteering at 30. Got hired as a paid member three years later, moved up to training officer, left a fine organization to prove to myself that I could still do the job in the backseat a few years ago. Good times with great people at a busy department. Had the opportunity to move to an officer slot at UFD and absolutely love it. Lots of teaching and mentoring of young folks who move on to career positions out in the world - can't ask for more in my book.

I received the Interior Chiefs Association Firefighter of the Year award in 1997, State of Alaska Instructor of the Year in 2002 and 2006. I'm pretty sure I didn't deserve any of them, but all of them were very humbling and gratifying. They look nice too.

Hockey is taking over my life! I will see what we can work out. Maybe a light dinner and some margaritas this weekend?

Winter is here! I don't think the slippery roads will compare to the stack fires that are coming :) How's life up at the U? When would be a good night for a guy to show up at Casa de Chambers?

Brother,

Thank you for the kind words. It was good to have met you and the other brothers from the tundra.

I am privileged to have been given the Dana Hannon award. I hope to meet the expectations of those who submitted my name for such an honor. Keep you eyes open for some big things to come from the Puget Sound FOOLS in the months to come.
