Train real... Train hard... Be safe...

I had 30 years on the line, and was a member in volunteer, part-time, and career departments, and have been truly blessed and honored to have instructed with, and learned from, the best Firefighters our business has to offer. I have found the true essence of the Firefighter demonstrated in members from the biggest cities to the smallest rural departments.
In all of this I have also found varying levels of committment and dedication. I've heard "don't bother me with that fire crap" to "Hey, what are we going to do for drill on Sunday?" It's not your check, it's your heart. Don't take anyone's word for it... find out yourself and never let >"cause we've always done it that way" be an answer to any of your questions about what or how to do it.

More GAME PLAN

If you played organized sports, you were assigned a position, and, a task with that position. If you didn't do it, you sat and the coach found someone that would. Why are more departments not creating riding assignments? It can be done from the largest to the smallest department. It creates accountibility, reduces duplication of effort, and gets the job done.

The Game Plan

Does your department have a good foundation for its SOG/SOP's do they make sense? Do they build from simple to complex? Does the first alarm have pre-determinded assignments? What is your staffing like? Does the SOG properly address the fireground basics ? lets talk about these questions what can we do to fix or change broken SOG's or create ones where none have existed.

A thought....

A Firefighter with no tools in his hand is a well dressed spectator.....

Hey Boss!

Thanks for the H.O.T. class in Maine! Hearing things from a different perspective is so valuable and its been a long time since I got to play student!
