Fire Engineering Training Community

Where firefighters come to talk training

Here's a couple to get started

1. There are no time-outs or do-overs in this buisness
2. Nothing great was ever accomplished without enthusiasm -- Emerson
3. No one respects the flame like the fool who's badly burned -- Pete Townsend
4. To go nowhere, follow the crowd
5. It only takes a solitary light to lead a thousand ships in from the darkness
6. Anger is only 1 letter short of danger
7. Do not follow in the footsteps of others, instead, create a new trail and leave a path

many more to follow
stay safe

Do your duty in all things
You cannot do more
You should never wish to do less

Some words from my dad (God rest his soul)

Son, have you ever heard the story of the monkey and the football? (When I was really making a mess of something)

Son, you can give a pig a bath, and put a bow around it's neck, but it's still a pig. (If I was trying make something out of nothing.)

"Hey look here Little Lord Funtly Roy." (If I were acting snobby)

"Pretty is as pretty does." (If it worked, no matter how goofy the world may thought it was)
My favorite
The garbage man doesn't get excited when he turns the corner
and sees trash,
Because he's expecting it
Likewise, you should be expecting fire on every run. —
(The Late) Lieutenant Andy Fredericks

Do Not Become Complacent!
Chris youve been union president too long

A turkey was chatting with a bull:

"I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey,
"but I haven't got the energy." "
Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull.
"They're packed with nutrients."
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him
enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree.

The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night there, he was proudly perched at the top of
the tree.
He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Moral of the story:

B******* might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.
Leadership is Action
Not Position
Some great stuff here! I have always like finding those sometime inspirational or little "nuggets of truth" that could either put a new perspective on things for you or someone else. Here are a few off the top of my head, more to follow later:

Not in time, place, or circumstance, but in the man lies success - Charles Rouce

Courage is resistance to fear, master of fear, not absence of fear - Mark Twain

Courage is a contradiction in terms; it is a readiness to live coupled with a willingness to die - unknown

The road to success is not doing one thing 100 percent better, but doing 100 things one percent better - unknown

Character is what you say and how you act when nobody is looking - H Smith

There is never a wrong time to do the right thing - unknown

...and for the officers.....

Praise in public, criticize in private- unknown
I had heard your quote "the more you bleed in training, the less you bleed in battle." one other time but it was "the more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle." still one of my favorite's though. Good job. Stay safe!
Here's a couple of old standards heard around the firehouse;

If you haven't heard a good rumor lately...Start one

And one to remind those last minute relief guys;
If you are early, you are on time
If your ontime you are late
If you are late you dont care
If you dont care you dont care find another job...
Never let the truth get in the way of a good rumor
To the rookie and veteran Firefighter:
" You can never know enough about a job that can kill you."

To the firehouse gluton: Never eat more than your facepiece will hold."

To the Haz-Mat technician:
Always seek a low-tech solution to your high-tech problem"

To the rookie: " Always guard your reputation. You can earn a reputation in one day that may take an entire career to outlive.
He who stands for nothing will fall for anything
