Hey PJ--We realize people want to split the 2 pieces of equipment but have found that it always leads to mistakes. We used to give the Officer the rope but found that distracted him too much so we gave that job to the Air/Nav. The Air is simply drug along until the victim is located--which is where the rope is handed off--and the air/nav moves up to secure the air. The Officer MUST focus on his crew, communication, the progress of the plan, and the environment (doesn't sound like much but under realistic conditions it's a bunch). Training brings things to a pretty realistic place but the one person that is truly short changed is the Officer because his decision making is not tested as it would be for real. The discipline to stay away from the victim and MANAGE and COMMUNICATE is critical -- and not likely to happen unless it has been absolutely drilled into him during training. None of us multi-task well on the fireground -- we all think we do but history repeatedly shows we don't.

Im assigned to Squad 61. I see your from Colorado Springs, my brother lives in Denver. I was out there last year for some skiing and buffing with Denver FD.

Hope the weather in Denver is nicer than this past week. I was in Denver last Thursday when it snowed. Looking forward to seeing you next week. Where in Denver will we be heading to? Let me know if you get a chance.

Hey PJ, I do remember that. I don't know how since I can barely remember what happened 10 mins ago. Old age! How all is well. Down at FDIC having great time. Lot's of work but well worth it.
Yeah, the low numbers on Memorial Drive are in our response district, but not much of it. We are a fairly slow station, but being on a truck we do get to go to most fires in the city. Feel free to drop in, there are alot of good guys on the job.
Wish I could make it to Denver but will not be able to. I am in the process of selling my house and things have really picked up. I hope to see you at the June seminar.
be safe,
Ted
Hey PJ.......it is just a little past Wareham, way out on the arm they call Cape Cod.
No so long ago I did a medical at a house with a brother from Colorado Springs. It was his mother or mother in law. Probably about 50 years old then but I can remember my own name, much less his.
You seem to have some East Coast roots.......or like nice rainy weather vs snow.
Be safe.
And by the way, the window way in a trophy house on the North side of Dennis. We went Mutual Aid as the 2nd Alarm truck. Oh and yes.....I had a nice view of Cape Cod Bay.......

The answer is "yes" to the HAV question. We use them in Malden.
