Do you have the capability to listen to the police on your radios? You can glean crucial information from the police. Have you ever been dispatched on a call for a sick person that ended up to be a person that is having a mental crisis and ultimately required police intervention?  There are times we are dispatched to assist the police, but you are giving very limited information. By monitoring the police channel you can get the missing information. There are call that may require the fire apparatus to stage while the police deal with a situation. Monitoring the situation allows you to decide if more help is needed to mitigate the call.

Let's take this scenario. You are dispatched for smoke in the building and a full box alarm is dispatched. While enroute the Chief hears on the police radio that there is a call for a shooting at the same address you are running. Having that information allows the Chief to slow the units down and stage until he gets more information. The simple task of listening to the police radio can keep your people safe.
