Where firefighters come to talk training

“Show the love”

Leadership is a foundation principle of our book and also the foundation of our success on the fireground. It is incumbent upon all of us regardless of rank, affiliation, or pay status to seek out mentors to develop our leadership skills because we all lead people.

As many will celebrate the Hallmark holiday of Valentines day this weekend, we also celebrate the birthday of a military and leadership icon, Lt Gen Hal Moore. Lt Gen Moore who, through his writings and shared experiences, has passed on many countless leadership maxims that we share in our 25 to Survive class. One of our favorites that is at the base of the Combat Ready concept is this one:

"When there is nothing wrong - there's nothing wrong except - THERE'S NOTHING WRONG! That's exactly when a leader must be most alert.” Hal Moore, 4 principles for conduct in battle.

So this weekend, show some love for your fellow firefighters and for Lt Gen Hal Moore by taking the time when nothing is wrong and be alert by building your combat ready crew and apparatus. Train with purpose, share your knowledge and experiences, and learn everyday. If we take these simple steps when there is nothing wrong, when we are called to duty we further ensure we will complete our mission with success and take care of our members.

Happy 94th Birthday Lt General Moore!
