Where firefighters come to talk training

For as long as I can remember, I have loved to read. Being that my interests have been very specific, I loved to read fire books.

So it only makes sense that the National Fire Academy’s Learning Resource Center is the “holy grail” of fire literature. Contained within its historic walls are over 208,000 books, video, research papers and publications.

THIS is my happy place.

If you have not personally been to the National Fire Academy, the campus and its top notch educational programs are worth the trip. After all, every American firefighter is afforded the right to attend courses for free.

Every trip out here reminds of why I became firefighters in the first place. The networking with other like minded professionals is incredible. I have fostered personal friendships with colleges from all over the country.

Of course no trip out here wouldn’t be complete without wandering the shelves of the library. To look back on the books and publications from years ago binds us with our rich fire service history. I only wish I had more time to just browse and read the books and publications.

If you have never traveled out here, I recommend browsing through the on campus course catalog and applying for a course. You will not be disappointed.
