Score One Win for the Good Guys!

Early yesterday we were notified by our good friend and founding FOOL John a.k.a. "Bart" Simpson that in Australia a blogger writing about a sex offender firefighter arrested in Australia was using a photograph of a deceased firefighter killed in the line of duty, John Curry that was posted on fireengineering website. The blogger was using firefighter Curry's photo as a generic photo of a firefighter. Two things are highly offensive regarding this man's actions. First there is nothing generic ab… Continue

A very interesting study by NIST

NIST Quantifies Low Levels of ‘Heart Attack Risk’ Protein Computer-generated image of the structure for C-reactive protein Credit: S. Kolstoe, Center for Amyloidosis, University College, London, UK Searching for a needle in a haystack may seem futile, but it’s worth it if the needle is a hard-to-detect protein that may identify a person at high risk of a heart attack circulating within a haystack of human serum (liquid component of blood). C-reactive protein (CRP), a molecule produced by th… Continue

Safer Grant Application Period Open The Department of Homeland Security today announced that the application period for the SAFER Grants is now open. It's important to remember that in June of this year the president approved new rules for how the SAFER Grant is going to be allocated and accessed this year. Important Update on Firefighter Michelle Smith's Murder case

Firefighter Michelle Smith was responding to a car accident with injuries when she was killed in the line of duty on Dec. 20, 2008. The defense for the man who killed her claimed becuse Michelle was working as a medic on that call then he did not kill a firefighter. Fire Engineering disagrees, Mr. Taye killed a firefighter. We wear many titles as firefighters, medics, rescue techs, confined space experts, hazardous materials responders, but inclusive of all of those other titles responsibilitie… Continue

ACORN to get $1 million of the fire act grant Again????

We are watching our federal funding for firefighting slowly eroding day by day. Earlier this year the Obama administration proposed cutting the fire act grant budget by $400 million. The original budget proposal from the president's office was to fund the fire act grant by only $170 million. Only through aggressive and coordinated action were we able to get some of that money, not all of it restored. Now we see in this article in the Washington Times that identifies acorn the community organizin… Continue

Righteous Outrage!

I recieved this update from a great friend and we should all be outraged by another example of judges who just don't take the time to get it right! From Paul Eichler I read in today's News Journal (8-28-09), page B3, News Briefs, the article titled "Judge: Murder charge in Smith's death may not stick". This article refers to the MURDER charge against Joseph Taye in the death of Michelle Smith. Apparently the judge, New Castle County Judge Jerome Herlihy, feels that prosecutors may have trouble… Continue
