"It depends on the culture that your department has towards either discipline as Chief Halton has indicated.  Austin (TX) has a third city service system and it works well for them.  Most of the Departments in north Texas are combined…"

Believe it or not, "too much training." As the Secretary of the Union for four years I found this complaint interesting.
Professional Qualifications:
Advanced Firefighter (TX), Driver/Operator-Pumper (TX), Instructor 2 (TX), HazMat Technician (TX), High Angle Rescue Technician (TX), Paramedic (TX).
Topics you provide training for:
Vehicle Rescue in conjunction with Chief Ron Moore (McKinney TX) before I moved. Structural firefighting. Looking to do some training/education here in northern Alabama now.

Bio:
R. Scott Widby went into public service in 1993 with the Cedar Hill (TX) Fire Department. He then was hired with the Plano (TX) Fire Department in 1994 where he retired in December of 2007. As a co-founding member of one of the first Tactical EMS Units in the Dallas area, he is currently a safety/training consultant for various companies including TEMS, vehicle rescue, offshore oil rigs, maritime security, and structural firefighting.
