It will be interesting to see how these new packs will integrate with our existing ones for FAST purposes. Is NIST currently testing these? Any idea on the time frame for full production and on the market?

Can we start an inspection Q&A in here? Well for starters I have a question. Can someone direct me to the code in NFPA that describes the difference between flam and corrosives and oxidizer lockers. I can't seem to find anywhere that will tell me...

Profile Information

Residence.
North Pole Alaska
Department:
Ft. Wainwright Fire & Emergency Services and North Star Volunteer Fire Department
Title/rank:
Fire Inspector @ Wainwright and Lieutenant @ NSVFD
Years of public service:
24 volunteer and 18 career
Agency structure:
Military fire department
Top issues in your department:
I think a lot of issues in our department are universal like most others.

Tradition is a big one! Being true to your Brothers even if they may be different or not exactly think like you do....that really ruffles the feathers. Some people have no concept with what "Walk the Walk" Talk the Talk" really means and you cannot have one without the other.
Professional Qualifications:
IFSAC Fire Officer I, II, Insp. I, II, Instr I, D/O & MWS, Aerial, ARFF, Pumper Hazmat IC & Technician, Telecommunicator I & II; Pennsylvania FF I, II & Alaska FF I, II, Instr. I; Trench & Confined space -Ice and High and low angle rescue; NIMS, CISM , Safety Officer, PIO, State of Alaska EMT II
Topics you provide training for:
FF I, FF II, Fire Inspection procedures, driving apparatus, water supply, firefighting basics, I do my best to share with those that are willing to learn our trade with my knowledge I have learned over the years from others and being on the job.
Areas of expertise:
"Ancora Imparo" means - Still I am learning" Michelangelo
"Omnis Cedo Domus - Everyone Goes Home I am a Firefighter"
"Noli nothis permittere te terere - Keep The Faith"

I am no expert in any one area. I do have lots of knowledge in many areas that I love to share so I can make room to learn more from all the people on here. It is already happening and still wanting to learn more.....guess I have a huge appetite for the Brotherhood and I can't get enough.

I am in the early stages of becoming a bagpiper and to get more involved in learning and developing a State wide protocol for an Honor Guard so that we can all be uniform and do it the same way everywhere. I feel this is important aspect because if you go to another area, most people would be familiar with the way it works and it would go much more smoothly.

You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and it does, use the duct tape.

Remember: Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Thanks in advance everyone

Looking Back!

As usual I I found cool and interesting historical stuff from Chief Billy on Firefighter Close Calls.com. Probably got this stuff from our very own fire service history wizard Chief Glenn Corbett...LOL Anyway this was recently posted on the site about two historic fires tragically claiming the lives of our brothers in years past.

Patriotism

Well it seems a lot has been happening in OUR country lately with American Flag displays in some apartment complex in Albany Oregon or a decal in a Pa FD not being allowed! In all my years in the Fire Service not much has been held more sacred than Patriotism and displaying the American flag and all that it stands for! We have all given our own personal sacrifices in one way or another and an insurmountable number have given their lives for OUR FLAG and COUNTRY to allow her to forever wave! What… Continue

Remember in all we do this day 9/11

This is a dark day for Americans and especially our profession. We must remain ever vigilant and never wavering in spirit and in Brotherhood. For what makes us weak will forever make us stronger. Fear not this day for God has us in His hands and the angels are among us. For today is a day of remembrance and also a day of reckoning that we know that those that gave their all are in Heaven and one day we will meet again.

So on this day and everyday always remember to honor not only our brothers a… Continue

An article on "Where Has the Brotherhood Gone?"

By Jason Zigmont

Whenever I visit different fire departments and talk to senior members, they all seem to say the same thing: "The fire service is not the way it used to be." They may have a point. It's not just the ever-changing technology and regulations. The biggest change seems to be in the decay of the brotherhood of firefighters.

There was a time when you could rely on your fellow firefighters for help with anything and the firehouse was the center of the community. Now you are lucky if… Continue

Sounds fun lol and thanks for keeping my recovery in your thoughts. I can't wait to come back. I'm not going to lie it's going to be hard at first emotionally, but I will have to deal with it if I want what I love to do.

LOL...It was actually caused by sparks while welding. The barn was well off when we got there but we were able to protect the house and keep it from damage. The house was only 20' away! It's a shame you don't live closer we could go ride. Nice bike by the way
