Profile Information

Residence.
North Pole Alaska
Department:
Ft. Wainwright Fire & Emergency Services and North Star Volunteer Fire Department
Years of public service:
Proudly Serving Since 1985
Agency structure:
Military fire department
Top issues in your department:
I think a lot of issues in our department are universal like most others.

Tradition is a big one! Being true to your Brothers even if they may be different or not exactly think like you do....that really ruffles the feathers. Some people have no concept with what "Walk the Walk" Talk the Talk" really means and you cannot have one without the other.
Professional Qualifications:
IFSAC Fire Officer I, II, Insp. I, II, Instr I, D/O & MWS, Aerial, ARFF, Pumper Hazmat IC & Technician, Telecommunicator I & II; Pennsylvania FF I, II & Alaska FF I, II, Instr. I; Trench & Confined space -Ice and High and low angle rescue; NIMS, CISM , Safety Officer, PIO, State of Alaska EMT II
Topics you provide training for:
FF I, FF II, Fire Inspection procedures, pumping apparatus, Aerial, water supply, firefighting basics, ARFF. I do my best to share with those that are willing to learn our trade with the knowledge I have learned over the years from others and being on the job.
Areas of expertise:
A disciple of the trade who is on a journey to better those around him and himself for those we serve. This isn't my first rodeo and I am no expert in any one area but I know a thing or two.

I do have knowledge in many areas that I love to share so I can make room to learn more from the brotherhood on here. It is already happening and still wanting to learn more.....guess I have a huge appetite for the Brotherhood and I can't get enough.
Bio:
Just like many, I always wanted to be a fireman and it's a humble calling whether your career or volunteer. Love having the greatest job in the world and learning new stuff eveyday while interacting with the with many brothers and sisters I network with and wouldn't want it any other way!

"I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman. The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the work which the fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling. Our proudest moment is to save lives. Under the impulse of such thoughts, the nobility of the occupation thrills us and stimulates us to deeds of daring, even of supreme sacrifice.”

“Firemen are going to get killed. When they join the department they face that fact. When a man becomes a fireman his greatest act of bravery has been accomplished. What he does after that is all in the line of work. They were not thinking of getting killed when they went where death lurked. They went there to put the fire out, and got killed. Firefighters do not regard themselves as heroes because they do what the business requires.”

Ed Croker, Chief of Department, FDNY (1899-1911)

I am in the early stages of becoming a bagpiper and to get more involved in learning and developing a State wide protocol for an Honor Guard so that we can all be uniform and do it the same way everywhere. I feel this is important aspect because if you go to another area, most people would be familiar with the way it works and it would go much more smoothly. Pittsburgh RIT team saves two firefighters

The below message is from our good brother Asst. Chief Jim Crawford of PBF. I received this in an email and felt it was in the best interest of everyone on here to pass this on.

"This is why all of us push, prode, and drive our points home as to why we train and do certain things...

Today, Pittsburgh had a successful RIT rescue of two firefighters who fell into a basement and became trapped after the stairwell they were climbing collapsed. Our GO Team did a fabulous job and I am very pr

Predicting flashover: engineers gauge combustion to protect firefighters

Here is an interesting article about a device that in the future that may help us predict and prevent ourselves from being caught in flashovers.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 - STOW — If you're an engineer developing a device to predict a flashover, you've got to know if the device is going to work in deadly conditions.

Last week, engineers and graduate students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute placed thousands of dollars worth of sensitive test equipment inside a concrete room at the Massachus
