Cruising Alaska is one of the best things in the world! Unpack one time, eat when you want, see great scenery and meet some wonderful people. May sounds early to most, but it historically our driest month. August rains more than all the rest.
The training/visiting trip was great! It is always good to sit in class and socialize with like-minded people. The road, however, was not as good. There were frost heaves (some as high as 2 feet) for about 200 miles. I know this sounds hard to believe, but we were all shook up by the time we were finished with it! Slow down and be safe everyone!
Having just begun on this site, I will be silent for 2 weeks. I will be driving to Anchorage for a forum for state fire marshalls & others (me). After that, I will drive to Soldotna for a 5 day class on arson investigation. Round trip is about 2000 miles - how far do you all have to travel for "local" training?
Of course, there will be some visiting and shopping. In a town of 500 in the winter and 10,000 a day tourist traffic in the summer, about the only thing you can purchase is T-shirts and other tourism related items.
Be safe. Chris
