Easy Upgrade for the Fire Kitchen

I know that many fire houses use white rice as a side dish. It can be quick and easy to use. Even though white rice can be simple to make it does not have many of the nutrients that our bodies so desperately need. These days when a recipe calls for rice instead of using white rice I now use brown rice. Even though it may take a little longer to prepare I believe the benefits it provides are worth it. White rice comes from brown rice. The difference is brown rice still has its outer shell that…See More

3 Ways to Deal with Stressful People

When it comes to stressful people they can come in all shapes and sizes. They also can have a variety of strategies when being stressful. Some people do not realize how they come across and others do and do not seem to care. Certain personalities may be easier to figure out when they are working toward manipulating, controlling, narcissism, using others or other ways that can be very stressful to deal with. The thing is, in the fire service you can’t just walk away from some of these scenarios…See More

4 Ways to Cope with Stress

“My mind is a bad neighborhood I never try to go into alone.” ~ Anne Lamott“A human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes.” ~ William James In today’s world, stress is an undeniable part of life. Many people are running nonstop when it comes to their career, family life and other responsibilities. In this fast paced world it can be challenging to find time to slow down and relax. The thing is, if you do not find time to slow down and take care of you it can, over time, catch up…See More

Do You Struggle with Brain Smoke?

I don’t know about you but I have dealt with brain smoke in the past for many years. Now, I do not mean this literally as if products of combustion had found their way inside, but figuratively; that “smoky” feeling in your head that makes it difficult to see correct answers easily or to think clearly. The thing is, until I became healthier I did not realize how much my thinking was under attack. The more I learned what type of food and lifestyle choices were right for me, the more my thinking…See More

Tips for the Wife of a Firefighter - To Fight Off Worry

I have been a wife of a firefighter for over thirteen years. I adore my husband. He is my best friend and my favorite person to hang out with. He still dabbles as a firefighter/paramedic at his small town fire department. I love my father-in-law. He has become my father. I am not close at all with my biological parents, so…See More
