Sometimes evacuation is not the answer to all fires, sometimes evacuation can take more time than extinguish the fire...

we are having big discusions in my FD about evacuation of occupants in HR fire. I need to know what are your SOP'S concerning evacuation of residential and commercial HR. In our FD presently we evacuate every one every time!!!
I'm not sure it is the best way to manage evacuation!

Does anyone have any information about a study conducted by the Denver Fire Dept. on failure of PRV's in high rise buildings?

Hello from Oklahoma City. A Chief of mine started this group, and he would be good to comment here, but I'll see if I can beat him to the punch.

Our department's high rise policy states that a reconnaisance/search group will go as high as 5 floors above the fire floor to aid in evacuation (certainly more if conditions warrant it). Also, our lobby control is dedicated to the task of giving instructions about evacuation over the loud speakers if there are any. I know that you will hear from others shortly.

By the way, your English is very good.

Chief Walker, are we going to "script" the language for lobby control so that all those put in charge of such an important task are giving approved messages? It seems easy enough to put together a template which would make instructing sometimes panicky civilians easier for a guy like me.

Hello,

In the netherlands we have allmost allways scissor stairways in high rise buildings.
If a operation is started from the stairways with an 2"hose and the door is open how are you shore that none of the evacuees is becoming in the same stairways, and use the orther stairways?

In the netherlands we don`t use evacuation with an elevator

As prevention systems whe nowe pressure stairways all stairways can stand 60 minutes of fire and we work 2 layers below the firelayer.
