thanks eddie building the maze sounds like a good idea to me and i like how you kinda set up a whole mock scene with the IC and all wich we do sumtimes too. but we havent ever toyed with the idea of havin the safety officer being dispatch i think that would be cool and really make the IC stay on his toes. thanks a lot eddie ill hafta take a look at the videos in the training minutes to get sum good ideas thanks again. stay safe brother

Hey Holden, what if you took some of the rit training videos in the training minuites, and retooled them to make them more intense. We have built mazes in the station bays with stuff as basic as thick cardboard and folding tables, to short pieces of 3/4" plywood to simulate walls. You can get really creative with these mazes. Black out a couple of masks, put a perosn in the maze somewhere and send in a team to rescue them. We have sent in a mock attack team and then a rit team to get the down man out. You can change the entry and egress points by simulating a portion of the building collapse and make them find an alternative means of egress. We have personell assigned to medical, rit and attack as well as an IC. The IC, has "curves" to deal with as well. Our training officer acts as dispatcher to limit his options and have him (IC) think on his feet. We also have a larger city dept that has a small "heat" building that has multiple levels for doing multilevel searches, and working off of ladders. You may check with some of the dept's in your area to see if that opportunity is available.

i was wondering if anyone knew of any really good intense mayday training? i and a lot of people in our area beleive that we have the best volunteer dept. in out area but we get that way by training and i think it would be good for us to do some mayday training sumtime soon.

I feel groups like this are so needed so we all can share ideas and thoughts on how to make our volunteer departments the best they can be. I can't wait to read some ideas that everyone has to share and learn from people with other ideas and goals. Always remember to strive for the professionalism of the greatest departments in this country whether you take 100 calls a year or 10,000 we're all doing the same job! Welcome everyone, I would like to first off say I really have found this site very usefull, and enjoy all the information that is available here. I wanted to start this group for the volunteers to have a place to share information. I also would appreciate any career guys that will to share and help us (volunteers) to be more professional. "We may be volunteer's, but we must be professional" that is probably one of my favorite quotes that I have heard since joining the fire service 2 years ago. Feel free to share. Thanks and God bless
