Permalink Reply by Chris Piepenburg on February 29, 2012 at 8:45pm The Kelly Tool preceded the Halligan Bar. It was invented by Capt John Kelly of the FDNY and was used for forcible entry. It had an Adz end much like today's Halligan, but the other end was a chisel. Paratech makes a "Kelly Tool" that looks like a Halligan without the Pike end.
Can anyone post a picture of said device?
Permalink Reply by Chris Piepenburg on March 2, 2012 at 4:12pm Thanks. It is similar to the Halligan, which I have had opportunity to use.

Can anyone confirm if the Halligan tool was invented by a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Officer by the name of Halligan?

Permalink Reply by Robert Owens on March 15, 2012 at 1:11pm The last one I saw was when I was 19 on an old 1987 Seagrave open cab ladder truck my volly house ran. I do not think they kept it on the new one when it went in service, but that was 10 years ago almost so I am not 100% sure
