Where firefighters come to talk training

The training in Rotterdam NY was built in 1970 , and mostly has not changed other than additions to the Training Center, back in the 90's live fire was banned in the training tower , so the Chiefs Association added a PVC system within the tower for a smoke machine to generate smoke, also in the 90's the propane are was updated and they added a Flashover Container from Swede., an Auto X pad was built at the same time .   Also a prefab Garage was built and house's the Mask Confidence Course GE/KAPL donated the Mask Confidence Sections to the Training Center

The Classroom was updated to hold training classes and the Bi- Monthly Chiefs Association meetings

In 2002 a Roof Simulator was added to the Center for ventilation drills / along with a framed steel door for forcible entry training

In 2008 / 2009 the Tower was inspected and the Chiefs added a Burn Room to one of the Bottom rooms for Live fire training. the project was completed in the fall of 2009

2010- Live Fire training started  in the Spring of 2010

2011 - The Chiefs added a emergency egress door to the Burn room, redid all the windows in the tower and replaced all doors with Fire Rated Doors. In June of 2011 the Chiefs will hold a Train the Trainer for the Flashover Container , seeing most of the older instructors are no longer around.

The Chiefs also are seeking grants to add a second Burn room to the tower on the upper floor/ Plus the county has agreed to build a new burn pad for car fires on town land.

The Training Center is all year round , by 8 Fire departments in the town, Plus by the City of Schenectady FD, Rotterdam Police ERT Team/ Schdy County Sheriffs K9 units/ Schdy County Fire Coordinators office for County Fire Training/ GE and KAPL.

 

The center is funded by the 8 Town Fire Districts yearly , their budget is $15,000.00 a year , The town Plows the center and mows the lawn , The Fire Deaprtments are assigned an area to maintain every year.
