Where firefighters come to talk training

Took a class with Brotherhood Instructorss LLC, and am sold on the merits of the REX TOOL. This is an incredible lock cylinder pulling tool. About 24" in length, adds more leverage to the traditional "O" Tool with the wider "U" shaped gate for a "K" Tool bite on the cylinder. The immediate advantage is the ability to pull deadbolt cylinders and "Key in Knob" locksets quickly and efficiently. The 24 inches seemingly gives more weight to drive rim locks off the door. We do not carry them on our apparatus, but will certainly be singing its praise in an effort to have them purchased. Will probably be buying my own. Looked the tool up and saw some modifications by Andrew Brassard and Robert Morris which are now available commercially. Any other thoughts out there??????

-Chuck, the Rex Tool is a great tool but not a new idea. It has been around the fire service since the late 60's under the name, the A Tool. It was created in answer to the lock manufacturers installing dead bolt cylinders recessed into the door.
-It is a great tool with many advantages and is something all firefighters, especially Truck Company members, should be familiar with.

Thanks Mike, I'm familiar with the A Tool...That's what we currently have on our rigs! I referenced it as the O Tool or officers tool in my post. What I liked about the Rex Tool is the wider gate and U shape, as well as the longer bar. The bite is the same as the K Tool but has the abilities of the A Tool. The downside to the Rex is that once the blades get damaged, you will not be able to replace them like the K tool. Incidently I purchased one of my own and am trying to get the research and development department to pick up on it. Thanks for the reply! Stay safe and stay in touch.

Chuck
