It should be done at the end of each practice or response like pre-trip inspections for air brake equipped trucks. That way you ensure you're ready to go for next time.

im looking more along the lines of equipment checks...How many times a week are they being done how many different members are assigned to do them and how are officers ensuring they get done...

We have an equipment checklist done for each engines with the content of each compartment and cabine. We also have a checklist for the mechanical aspect of it since we have to do it by law. We are on a 3 week schedule, team #1 on week 1, team #2 on week 2 and on week 3, all of us on practice night. We have one officer per team that supervises the work. Hope it helps.

We typically do it when we have a crew night or a crew in quarters. If it is a crew night, the crew goes off the week that the crew falls on for what unit to check (Ie Week 1- first out wagon, Week 2-2nd run wagon and Brush truck). when they check it, everything that can be run, must be run.

Come up with a month by month rig list for the guys to check tool's and clean the rig's ..

But also have drill's on the rig's on down time, stand by's or just if you guy's or chilling at the station.

It will help the new and old guys get to know the rig and the placement of the tool's.

We do our rig checks once a week, have sheets with list of what to check , oil level, antifreeze, windshield washer, tires ,brakes , etc then the members doing the rig check also are reqired to check all small equipment ,saws ,generators , fans , scba, then once a month scba's get a real good going over by a chief officer , and proper paper work filled out ,
