Where firefighters come to talk training

Ok i would like everyones thoughts on EMS response only on weekends. In our Department we have 5 day coverage from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday thru Friday with the rest covered by first come response. Lately on the weekends we have gone mutual aid alot. It was not like this when i joined. As only one of 3 dual memebers i feel that the community is being compromised. I am not sure what to do. I asked and even submitted a 7 day rotation and got no support. In fact one memeber stated that if she told her husband that she had to do weekend coverage he would make her quit.

What i am asking is 1. How do you feel about weekend responses? and 2. How does your volunteer departments your in or around cover weekends?

My personal opinion, even if staffing is down, I'm going to get the apparatus out whether it jeopardizes my personal time or not. Granted, my department very rarely has staffing problems. Are you proposing that you not staff the ambulance certain days of the week in order to staff in on weekends? It seems that you have a low membership, maybe consider aggressively recruiting. What do you mean by "the rest covered by first come response"?

What i worked up was a 5 crew 7 day rotation. We do not have a problem getting out the door on the week days due to people working in the township. The first come response is who ever makes it to the station goes. If 2 people show up then those 2 go if more show up then we see how many are needed based on the call. We have alot of runs where a driver with one in the back is enough. We are looking into recruitment. We will staff the ambulance all 7 days!

Everyone should be on the department for one reason and that is to help their community. If someone on your department that is not wanting to do whatever it takes to help the community then maybe someone needs to re evaluate that person.
